My rating system closely follows the Goodreads rating system:
1 star: Didn’t like it.
2 star: It was okay; most likely was boring, over-hyped, had questionable situations, or just not my type.
3 star: I liked it; wasn’t my favorite, will probably give away the book, but not quite a waste of time.
4 star: I really liked it, but there might be something missing or parts I didn’t enjoy.
5 star: It was incredible, beautiful, mind-blowing, life-changing, everyone should check it out.
My average rating is between 3 and 4 stars. I am not stingy with high ratings, especially if I did genuinely enjoy a book. (I am also known to give my favorite books 5 star ratings despite major flaws because yolo~~~ sorry for screwing up the curve 💁)
I do give half stars, but on Goodreads I always round down. So if a book has a 3.5 star rating, I’ll round it down to a 3 star but say so in the review. Books I don’t finish (DNFs) do not receive a rating.
My Goodreads account will have the most accurate depiction of what I like to read, or what I’m looking forward to reading. I prefer physical books as I don’t own an eReader, but will accept a PDF if I’m particularly interested. I will not read a book from a series unless I’ve already read the previous books prior to your request, or if you provide them.
Genres I prefer to read:
- Young Adult and Middle-Grade (contemporary, coming of age, historical, adventure)
- New Adult
- Literary Fiction
- Historical Fiction
- Women’s Fiction/Chick Lit
- Graphic Novels/Comics/Manga
I am extremely picky with romance, fantasy, and science fiction genres and subgenres; I will read them but I am generally a harsher critic.
If a book is not considered one of the genres listed above but is on my Goodreads “to read” shelf, I would also accept it.
I don’t have the capacity to give a full review to every book I read on my own, but each book I receive in exchange for a review will have a full-length review posted to both my blog and my Goodreads account, guaranteed.
Full length reviews will include:
- The cover photo and/or art
- Title, author, page count, and release date
- Disclosure (if I was given the book in exchange for an honest review)
- A brief summary
- My thoughts
- My rating (see above)
I write honest reviews for the all the books I read. Therefore, there is a possibility I would (and will) write a negative review.
I will try to read your book in a timely manner, but please let me know if there’s a specific date you’d like me to read it by.
If you would like to post an author interview or guest post with the review, let me know! I’d be happy to try and accommodate.
If you’re interested in having me review, you can send inquires, requests, or questions to my email: firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to hearing from you!
